Gila Cliff Dwellings National Momument is above the floor of the canyon, near the west fork of the Gala River where seven natural cavities indent the face to the cliff. Five of them contain the focus of the momument: 42 rooms constructed during the late 13th century by people to the Mogollon culture. A one mile long trail leads from the parking area to the dwellings. Gala Visitor Center is two miles from the entrance. There are weekend activity programs in summer; a park ranger is on duty all year. Pets are not allowed on the monument trail; free kennels are available.
