When Walker Air Force Base closed on June 30, 1967, Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell-Roswell acquired about 235 acres, including 27 major brick structures and numerous frame construction buildings. In addition, the origins of what was once Roswell Community College became Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell.

Twenty Certificate Programs, 13 Associate of Applied Science, six A.A.s and six A.A.s are offered by ENMU-R.

The University is located in Chaves County, NM, and has an enrollment of about 7500.
