Martinez Hacienda is thought to be the only restored hacienda open to the public. It was built in 1804 by Padre Antonio Severino Martinez, a merchant and alcalde -mayor- of Taos. The fortress like house has 21 rooms built around two large placitas, or patios. Furnished in period, it contains exhibits of spanish colonial life and culture. Living-history demonstrations are presented. A combination ticket is available with Ernest L. Blumenschein Home and Kit Carson Home and Museum.
Click to go to Martinez Hacienda's own Web site. You will locate other web pages at NMohwy.com that are very much like Martinez Hacienda at Historic Buildings. . Visit New Mexico Travel Guide' interactive American History project. A team of researchers is developing a site that will present U.S. history in the context of present day travel.
