The Valle Grande was privately owned but was purchased by the U.S. government in the year 2001. The Valle Calderas National Preserve is expected to open to the public in the year 2003. Visitors can still experience the grandeur of this caldera today by driving through the beautiful Jemez Mountains on State Route 4.
